New Year, New Design:
Interior Design Trends for 2022

REFRESHING YOUR HOME FOR THE NEW YEAR

Can you believe it’s already the beginning of another year? Now that we’ve made it to the new year, we at Furnitureland South thought it would be fun to share our discoveries of the hottest interior design trends for 2022.

Interior Design Trends 2022

A few interior design trends for 2022 are less is more, functionality is key, and including natural elements in our homes is becoming more important, as we strive to connect with nature in this digital era we’re living in. With the ongoing trend of spending more time in our homes, people are beginning to enhance their spaces to create that carefree, wistful feeling of a vacation house inside their full-time homes.

With that, minimalist design is making a comeback, and wallpaper is on the rise. The more patterns and textures you can incorporate into your design, the better.

On the other hand, the farmhouse style that took the design world by storm and quickly became one of the most popular trends in the past is starting to go out of style. Therefore, we will begin to see a shift towards more modern lines and silhouettes in the years to come.

Color Trends 2022

In terms of color, there are a few adjustments being made to the shades we have come to love. Overall, we’re going to continue seeing a shift to lighter, neutral color trends in 2022 that capture an aura of relaxation.

We want our homes to serve as an escape from reality – a place where we can relax and feel our very best. Including lighter colors throughout our homes can bring a calmness into our lives – something of the utmost importance following two years of anxiety and unknowns.

While light and airy is a relaxing color scheme for many, others enjoy hints of black and clean lines or subtle jewel tones (such as the Pantone Color of the Year 2022 – PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri) to create a calming and unique space. Luckily, each of these styles is trending.

With the rise of color comes the fall of muted tones, such as grey.

Kitchen Trends 2022

Because we have been spending more time in our homes, we have also been running to the kitchen more often to get sustenance for our binge-watching sessions. Therefore, people are seeking functionality and style when considering updates to their kitchen areas.

Regarding 2022 kitchen trends, the concept of open cabinetry has resulted in more problems than stylistic solutions; however, it is easy to discern why people love the look of them so much. Open cabinets allow you to add more accents to your kitchen than ever before. However, the more accents often mean more opportunities for clutter.

If you’re the type of family who rushes into the house after school to get dressed for soccer practice and grab a quick bite to eat on the way out the door, then open cabinets might not be the best choice for your kitchen. More openness means more space to clean before having guests over. But if you’re empty nesters and live a slower paced lifestyle that allows for more clean up time, then open cabinets might be a good design element for your kitchen.

Furniture Trends 2022

During the pandemic, we sought the furniture we could get as soon as possible. Now that the pandemic has slowed down a bit, we’re realizing it’s worth the investment to purchase quality furniture for our homes.

While selecting furniture for your home can be stressful, it doesn’t have to be. Here at Furnitureland South, we have the world’s largest showroom featuring luxury furniture brands and will pair you with a design consultant who will learn your style and help you locate the perfect furniture for your space that is within your budget.

In terms of what’s trending in furniture, round shapes have become a staple in today’s homes. Combined with a soft, boucle fabric, round shapes make an inviting escape for you and your loved ones.

Space Planning

When it comes to planning the layout of your space, there is a growing trend of dividing rooms rather than continuing the ever-so-popular open design concept of the last few years. This is not to say that open concepts are a thing of the past; however, it is important to take note of your space and decide whether you want more space to run around or go with a more classic look of divided rooms with their own unique elements and styles.

Don’t stress about space planning! When you meet with your Furnitureland South Design Consultant, they will get to know your space and guide you along as you determine what furniture will serve it best.
