New Traditional Style

COMBINING CONTEMPORARY AND TRADITIONAL DESIGN

When talking about furniture styles, there are a lot of similarities, as well as vast differences that mimic the world around us. In a lot of ways, humans are similar in that we are all living, breathing and active beings sharing a world full of color, culture and vibrance. On the other hand, there are specific nuances in the ways we choose to live our lives that establish grounds for diversity, differing perspectives and a propensity for change.

The same can be said for furniture styles. There is furniture that fits the rustic lifestyle of a rural farmer, designs that feature sleek lines for the urban city dweller and styles that incorporate both to create contemporary designs. Through all of this, there is always a desire to create newness, and that is why we are bringing you a new style entitled “New Traditional.”

New Traditional style is where traditional and contemporary styles meet to produce a classic look with modern lines. In simpler terms: it’s modernizing traditional design or combining contemporary and traditional design.

Here at Furnitureland South, we work diligently to have the hottest styles on display to keep your home looking fresh. Our OnTrend Gallery does a phenomenal job of showcasing what’s trending in furniture and fashion to keep you (and us) on our toes.

When you visit us, the OnTrend Gallery is conveniently located on the first floor of the Mart building and has recently undergone an update that caters to the New Traditional style. As you walk around, the mood boards shown below are placed throughout to help you envision how our top brands of furniture can elevate your New Traditional home. These mood boards were created from the inspiration of our magnificent merchandising team who provided us with some wisdom regarding the New Traditional landscape.

Modernized Familiarity

"I view New Traditional as a fresh take on what feels comfortable and familiar, reminiscent of childhood with modern updates, and that is how we created this design. The classic lines and traditional shapes in an updated finish, floral wallpaper in a refreshing color palette with a subtle chinoiserie feel and neutral linens accented with greens make this room clean and crisp."

- Ailene Beeson

Light & Airy

"New Traditional is transitioning from rich and heavy to light and airy, and that was the motivation behind this room. We combined Old Traditional styles with gold trim china passed down in the family and the traditional motif on the rug but updated it with New Traditional flair with fresh color tones, mixed metals and an antique chandelier with a floral design. The room is comfortable, functional and fashion forward."

- Erin Penrod

Timeless Beauty

"Beauty and timelessness are at the heart of this New Traditional design. Softer, classic elements invite warmth and familiarity into this traditionally rooted yet contemporary vignette with sleek and formal furniture. New Traditional style wants you to mix finishes and time periods, so we used performance fabric on the dining chairs and reclaimed wood on the table. Comfort is at the forefront of this design that will last over time and allow you to use your dining room for more than just the holidays!"

- Heather Rawlinson

The "Fun Sister"

"New Traditional is the 'fun sister' style! Shake things up a bit with contemporary décor, update your rug and unfussy the details. And don’t be afraid to mix up your eras and create world-class harmony with high-end artwork, two-toned finishes and fabulous textures."

- Jenny Sarvis

Generational Appeal

"When my client came to me with an inherited, traditional sideboard from her mother, we knew we couldn’t use it in the conventional way. While her mother used it for family dinners in her large dining room, my client does not have a large dining space, so we decided to use it in her extra bedroom that we transformed into a home office. The sideboard is great for storage and the perfect mix of warm wood and clean lines, making it a stunning addition to the New Traditional category."
